Removing the old engine

In the last few weeks Ian has been busy on the Eagle RV, with removing the front grill panel assembly, radiator, prop shaft and the 4-speed gearbox.

The engine ready to be removed from the RV

First job today was to take the head off the engine, not only to help with the weight of the engine being lifted out but also to see what had gone wrong with it.

The head removed

Engine block lifted out of the RV. Before the replacement engine and gearbox are fitted in the rust on the chassis rail's will be sanded and given a fresh coat of paint along with the front suspension cross member.

As we first suspected back in March 08 (see post The Engine) the piston rings are stuck on this engine which is allowing the oil to get past to be burnt. At some point we will get round to stripping it right down for a closer look before it gets a total rebuild.
